Two nights ago an anchor person and camera man from WCAX Channel 3 News came out to cover our annual phonathon at Champlain College. Bianca Slota from WCAX interviewed David Mullin, our Executive Director, and their camera man took some terrific shots of our student volunteers in action. The WCAX story was also picked up by the USA Today website folks. We appreciate the exposure and support from great local organizations like WCAX.

Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity owes much of its success to the charitable support we receive from our corporate sponsors. We depend on their generosity and community involvement to help us build more houses to help more local families in need.
Shearer Chevrolet, located on Shelburne Road in South Burlington, is one of our more recent corporate partners. They sponsored the Community Summer Picnic at Shelburne Farms in July of last year. Shearer also donated a portion of their sales from the latter part of 2009 to support GMHfH.
GMHfH hopes you will support those local businesses that support us. For more than eighty years, people from all over Vermont and neighboring states have been buying cars and trucks from Shearer.
Shearer Chevrolet can help you go green with a wide selection of vehicles with estimated mileage rates of 30 gallons or more. Check out their website at: www.shearerchevrolet.com or stop by and visit them at their dealership. |

There are many ways homeowners can control the ever increasing amount of energy they use in their home. Here are a few simple steps do-it-yourselfers can tackle and a few to leave up to the professionals. All will save you money.
An annual tune-up and inspection of your heating system by a professional can provide significant savings. Losses from a poorly maintained system can accumulate over time. One easy way to maintain the efficiency of your heating/cooling system is by regularly changing or cleaning the filter. Heating and cooling losses in duct systems are also common. Sealing and insulating ducts can save serious dollars. |

Greg Jackson had volunteered with GMHfH for several years when in 2008, he became involved in organizing a company-wide effort at his workplace, GE Healthcare, to support three house builds in Milton. Greg met with GMHfH leadership and identified people within the company with construction expertise to reinforce Habitat house leadership teams. Over 600 GE Healthcare employees contributed to the effort. Volunteer construction work took place during the last two weeks of July 2008. GE employees swung hammers, lugged materials, distributed food and drink; in the middle of it all was Greg. |
