Are you looking for affordable housing opportunities in Northwest Vermont? This form is for individuals and families interested in applying for future Habitat for Humanity homes. By completing this form, you’ll receive important updates about the application process, eligibility requirements, and upcoming projects. Do you qualify for a Habitat home?
1. Housing Need
Demonstrate a need for a Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity home, including one or more of the following:
- Living in overcrowded conditions or unsafe environments
- Living with relatives, friends, or in other temporary housing
- Having housing expenses that are more than 30% of their household income
- Unable to qualify for conventional mortgages on a market-rate house
2. Ability to pay an affordable mortgage
Habitat homeowners must earn 80% or less of the HUD median household income levels, adjusted depending on the number of people living in the home. The income limits are listed below. Homeowners must be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage through a local bank or credit union.

3. Willingness to partner with Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity
Once selected, future Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity.” Every household must complete 200 hours of sweat equity, with at least 75 of those hours helping to build their home or the homes of others and 25 hours spent in one of our ReStores. Other sweat equity hours may include working at the Habitat ReStores, completing financial training, homeownership training, and meeting with Habitat staff. Up to 100 hours may be completed by friends, family, and other community members.

Family Selection Committee
The Selection Committee is responsible for helping identify, review, and recommend qualified applicants for participation in the homeownership program. Committee members support a fair, consistent, confidential, and compassionate selection process that reflects the organization’s mission and applicable fair housing requirements.
Family Support Committee
The Family Support Team Member is primarily tasked with helping guide approved Partner Families by empowering them through the Homeownership program. The Family Support Committee (FSC) is an all-volunteer committee that helps families become successful partners and homeowners with Habitat.
