Morrisville, Vermont (6/20/23)— On Wednesday, June 21st at 11 AM, Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity (GMHFH) will break ground at 11 Olive Street in Morrisville, the site of its newest single-family home project. The home will soon be available for purchase for low-income families in Habitat’s Homeownership Program. GMHFH’s CEO, David Mullin, and Morrisville town officials will be on-site to share remarks.
“Green Mountain Habitat is one of the few organizations that makes affordable homeownership possible in Lamoille County,” says David Mullin, the nonprofit’s CEO. “The organization helps hard-working families realize the dream of owning their own home, which ultimately creates long-term stability, security, and self-reliance.”
The home in Morrisville marks an exciting new chapter for Green Mountain Habitat. In the fall of 2022, two smaller chapters merged with the larger, more established affiliate in Williston. Now, the organization serves all of Northwest Vermont, including Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille counties. The expanded geographic reach positions the organization to increase capacity, build more homes, and serve more families in our region.
The home on Olive Street is a partnership between Green Mountain Habitat and Downstreet Housing Trust, who are teaming up to sell the home. As part of Habitat for Humanity programs, homeowners become vested in their property by completing 250 hours of sweat equity in place of a down payment. New homeowners must demonstrate a need for better housing and the financial well-being to repay an affordable mortgage.
