BURLINGTON, VERMONT (7/3/2024) – Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity recently completed a new, perpetually affordable duplex in Burlington’s Old North End.
To celebrate the construction of these homes, GMHfH is hosting two Open Houses on July 11 from 4-6pm and July 13 from 11am-1pm. Guests can tour the homes and light refreshments will be served.
Each side of the duplex features 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The homes have a backyard, shared porch, and a shared shed. Inside, the house features ducted air-source heat pumps, which reduce electricity use for heating. Each Habitat home undergoes a Home Energy Assessment for new construction by Efficiency Vermont, which certifies its energy efficiency.
“We are very excited for two Vermont families to move into these beautiful homes,” said Scott Rogers, Director of Development and Communications. “The work that Green Mountain Habitat does is vital to solving the housing crisis that we are facing in Vermont right now.”
With the help of volunteers, donors, grantors, and affordable housing partners, GMHfH is able to sell the homes to our partner families at-cost, which is approximately half of the market value of the home, if it were to be sold on the open market.
For our partner families, the average cost of mortgage payment, utilities, taxes, and insurance is often less than what they were paying in their prior living situations.
GMHfH helps give families a “hand-up,” not a “hand-out” towards homeownership because we believe that everyone deserves a decent place to live. To learn more about GMHfH’s work in Northwest Vermont, visit our website.

About Habitat for Humanity
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The non-profit housing organization has since become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and more than 70 countries. Families and individuals who need a hand-up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower.
